BIRUNGA SACCO MUSANZE is a District Savings and Credit Cooperative (D-SACCO) established following the consolidation of 15 U-SACCOs operating within MUSANZE District, in accordance with the Government of Rwanda SACCO's consolidation framework. 

BIRUNGA SACCO MUSANZE is looking for qualified, competent, committed, proactive and self-motivated individual to occupy the following positions at Head office and Branch level:

Position: SENIOR INTERNAL AUDITOR

Number: 1

Main Responsibilities of Senior Internal Auditor

Under the supervision and guidance of the Supervisory Board Committee with reporting line to the Managing Director, the senior Auditor has the main responsibilities: 

  1. To work diligently on the assigned work on time and to produce results;
  2. To comply with the instructions of the employer or his/her representative;
  3. To comply with the laws, regulations and decisions of the Cooperative;
  4. To take good care of and oversee the equipment assigned to him/her in his/her work;
  5. To be at work and to respect working days and hours;
  6. To keep confidentiality of work;
  7. To deliver basic identification documents before starting work;
  8. To follow the principles and rules governing the perform of the Cooperative's business activities;
  9. To produce a monthly, quarterly and annual audit plan based on activities that appear to be likely to cause damage or waste the Cooperative's assets;
  10. make sure that internal audit guidelines and principles are properly followed to prevent errors or possible malpractices;
  11. Report any shortcomings in the daily operations of the department with a view to preventing theft, embezzlement and misuse of funds;
  12. Establish a table of issues identified by the audit, recommendations made by the audit and the methods for their implementation;
  13. evaluate whether the internal audit system is working properly, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, and providing recommendations for action;
  14. evaluate whether the accounting has been carried out in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the regulations of the Central Bank of Rwanda (BNR), and that the information contained is complete and reliable to help with making informed decisions;
  15. Verify whether all activities of the Cooperative comply with applicable laws and regulations;
  16. Analyze the efficient and effective use of the Cooperative's resources to achieve its objectives;
  17. track and analyze the causes of problems in order to determine methods and strategies to solve and prevent them;
  18. keep proper records and audit evidence;
  19. perform a special audit of the funds on hand and verify how these funds are used and authorized, to make sure that no errors are made;
  20. Verify that shares, deposits, loan payments, and interests are correctly recorded in the Cooperative's IT system and make sure that they are properly processed;
  21. evaluate whether loan files are completed as required by the loan policy, the loan disbursement and repayment procedures, and make sure that loan and interest payments are properly processed;
  22. evaluate and confirm that all outstanding debts have been recovered as planned;
  23. produce periodic reports on internal audits, showing whether the operating procedures and regulations are being followed;
  24. evaluate the bank statements and corresponding documents and verify that the Cooperative's assets are properly protected;
  25. track the implementation of the resolutions of the meetings issued by the competent authorities;
  26. deliver advice on all irregularities and submit them to the relevant authority;
  27. Submit internal audit plans and reports to the supervisor;
  28. Supervise the work carried out by other employees;
  29. Supervise the implementation of the strategic& business plans, action plan and budget;
  30. Timely prevent and disclose any conflicts of interest or lack of segregation of duties;
  31. Perform other duties that are not contrary to the laws and regulations required by the supervisor, employer or superior body.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Finance/Accounting/auditing/Business Administration/Economics or other related fields from a recognized institution with 2 years of experience on audit position within banking sector with Accounting professional courses CPA Certificate or CPA courses in progress.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting/auditing/Business Administration/Economics or other related fields with 7 years of experience on audit position within banking sector with full CPA Certificate.
  • Strong analytic skills.
  • Professional qualification in auditing is an added value;
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professionalism and integrity.
  • Proven knowledge of auditing standards and procedures, laws, rules and regulations.
  • Advanced computer skills on MS Office and Core Banking Software.
