Data Observations, Quality Control and Processing Division Manager

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. track the state of the atmosphere on different time scales

• Observe, record, and transmit meteorological data from weather observation stations according to Standard Operating Procedures.

• keep hard and soft copies of weather observation data in the recommended formats and processes.

• keep meteorological stations and instruments in good working condition.

• Perform quality checks at station level and during data transmission.

• produce and transmit climatology reports (weekly, monthly, and annually).

• deliver real-time weather observation updates to the forecasting office.

• Enter weather data into logbooks as required by Quality Management Systems (QMS).

• Report any changes in station metadata to the supervisor.

• perform data entry using the CLIMSOFT data management system.

• Perform basic calibration of instruments at the base station.

• Immediately report any instrument malfunction to the Observation Supervisor at Headquarters.

  1. Representation and Stakeholder Engagement

• Receive and document visitors at assigned weather stations.

• keep engagement with stakeholders for regular weather updates.

• keep good relationships with cooperative observers and users in the area.

• Report service requirements or changes to the supervisor.

  1. Ensure Data Quality and Station Integrity

• Perform quality checks on all observed meteorological data.

• Ensure instruments are functioning properly at all times.

• Complete and transmit daily electronic observation logs to headquarters.

• Ensure proper maintenance of both manual and automatic weather stations.

• Consult WMO technical manuals and guidelines for observation standards.

• Report all technical or operational irregularities immediately in writing.

RELEVANT NOTE

Candidates with degrees or diplomas in non-meteorological fields must hold a professional/technical certificate in Meteorology from a recognized WMO institution or have at least 2 years of relevant experience in meteorological observations.
