Data Observations, Quality Control and Processing Division Manager

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Climate Data Quality Control & Assurance

• Ensure all observational records are properly quality controlled according to WMO guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

• Perform statistical tests on large datasets to assess data quality and integrity.

• Evaluate performance of data management systems and their impact on data quality.

• Collaborate with database developers to enhance data collection and storage processes.

• Run data queries to detect coding issues, anomalies, and inconsistencies.

• Clean and validate meteorological datasets.

• Gather data from primary and secondary sources to detect trends and patterns.

• Report analysis findings to management for decision-making.

• Document data processes and keep records for climate data platforms.

• Apply best practices in data analysis and data management.

• Stay updated on developments in data quality and analytics.

• Perform data quality tests including format, completeness, and consistency checks.

• Ensure meteorological data is accurate, error-free, or minimized according to standards.

• Apply statistical methods for data homogeneity testing.

  1. Weather Station Monitoring

• track automatic weather station performance daily.

• produce daily status reports of operational and non-operational stations.

• Advise on maintenance needs for stations and equipment.

  1. Training and Capacity Building

• perform training on Climate Data Management Systems installation and usage.

• Train staff on new systems and procedures.

  1. System Upgrade and Development

• detect and recommend new database management software.

• Configure and keep DBMS on servers.

• Train users on system usage.

  1. Anomaly Detection and Reporting

• Detect and report anomalies in manual and automatic weather station data.
