TERMS OF REFERENCE 

Recruiting a Consultant to perform Training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for French Beans Production 

Background

Women for Women Rwanda (WfW-Rwanda) is a non-for-profit national NGO. Its mission seeks to assist women and girls to break the vicious cycle of poverty and social exclusion, by enabling them to become socially and economically capable to guide themselves and their community to better health, education, and social conditions. Since its establishment, WfW 

Rwanda has been implementing different initiatives aimed at promoting women’s socio economic empowerment. 

As part of its agricultural development initiatives, WfW-Rwanda invites qualified Consultants to deliver training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) focusing on french beans production for women-led farming cooperatives in Kayonza District. 

Objective 

The objective of this assignment is to strengthen farmers' knowledge and practical skills in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for french beans production, with the aim of improving productivity, product quality, and compliance with domestic and export market standards. 

Scope of Work 

The selected Consultant will be tasked with: 

1. Developing practical training materials and a farmer-friendly french beans GAP farming guide in Kinyarwanda. 

2. Delivering participatory classroom and field-based training covering: 

  • Land preparation 
  • Seed selection and planting 
  • Soil fertility and nutrient management 
  • Irrigation and water management 
  • Integrated pest and disease management 
  • Safe handling and application of agrochemicals 
  • Harvesting techniques 
  • Post-harvest handling 
  • Quality requirements and market standards for french beans 

3. Conducting practical field demonstrations and hands-on learning sessions. 

4. Preparing and submitting a comprehensive final training report, including training outcomes, attendance records, key observations, and recommendations. 

Qualifications 

The Consultant should possess the following qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, or a related field. 
  • At least five (5) years of demonstrated experience in horticultural production, particularly french beans production and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training. 
  • Proven experience in training and working with farmer cooperatives or producer groups. 
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and report-writing skills. 
  • Fluency in both English and Kinyarwanda.
