Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa's farmers, we deliver high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. About the Young Professionals Program

One Acre Fund’s Young Professionals Program offers high-performing African graduates meaningful internships and training opportunities at a high-performing, mission-driven organization. Our internships are paid and all interns can expect to receive substantive work assignments working on high-impact projects that assist One Acre Fund's operations.

When joining, interns will participate in an onboarding program and receive training on how to design and execute projects. Over the period of your internship, you will get the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals and receive learning opportunities to build strong foundations for your future career. 

About the Role

Seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented legal professional or recent LL.B graduate to gain hands-on experience in legal research, investigations, evidence evaluate, and professional drafting within a fast-paced and dynamic operational environment.

Responsibilities

Case Assessment & Evidence Management

• Case Evaluation: assist the evaluate of new and ongoing cases to detect the nature of allegations, establish background context, and break down complex matters into clear investigative issues.
• Information Analysis: evaluate and organize case documents, records, and correspondence into structured, easy-to-analyze formats.
• Critical evaluate: Proactively detect and highlight inconsistencies, missing information, or areas requiring further clarification within case files.

Investigative assist & Documentation

• Material Preparation: help with drafting essential investigative tools, including interview questions, case summaries, and briefing notes.
• Factual Record Keeping: Document interviews and key findings accurately to contribute to a coherent, objective factual record for each case.
• Operational assist: Assist the team with day-to-day investigative and administrative tasks as assigned.

Legal Research & Analysis

• Targeted Research: perform focused legal research on matters relevant to assigned cases.
• Legal Summaries: Synthesize and summarize applicable legal principles in a clear, well-structured manner.
• Fact-to-Law Mapping: assist the team in linking established facts to relevant legal issues under senior supervision.

Drafting & Reporting

• First Drafts: produce structured initial drafts of Investigation Plans, progress updates, final reports, and legal memoranda.
• Iterative Refinement: Participate actively in team discussions and revise drafts based on feedback to meet institutional standards.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

• Foundational understanding of criminal law, law of evidence, and contract law
• At least 3-6 months of internship or practical exposure within a law firm, judiciary, prosecution office, or other fast-paced legal environment is an added advantage
• Demonstrated experience in legal writing through coursework, research papers, moot court activities, internships or similar assignments
• Strong interest in legal and investigations work, with a willingness to learn, take initiative and work within structured timelines and high-pressure environments
• Proficiency in both English and Kinyarwanda, with strong verbal and written communication skills required; working knowledge of French is an added advantage.

Benefits

Interns will be provided with a reasonable stipend for the duration of their contract. Rural area based fellows will be provided assistance in locating suitable housing.
