VACANCY – PROTECTION OFFICER (CHILD PROTECTION & GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE)

COUNTRY PROGRAM MISSION:

Alight Rwanda, formerly known as the American Refugee Committee, has been a key player in delivering impactful humanitarian programs since 1994. Operating in all six refugee camps in Rwanda, Alight provides integrated services in protection, health, livelihoods, and community development. The organization has pioneered initiatives like the SASA! methodology to promote gender equality, reduce GBV, and empower vulnerable populations. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Protection Officer (CP/GBV) ensures the full delivery of protection services in locations with limited staffing, combining case management, prevention, coordination, and community-based protection.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Direct Case Management

• deliver CP and GBV case management services (intake, assessment, follow-up, closure)
• perform BIA and assist BID processes
• Ensure survivor-centered approach and confidentiality

2.Protection Service Delivery

• Deliver psychosocial assist and protection services
• Respond to urgent protection needs and risks

3.Community-Based Protection

• perform awareness and prevention activities (CP & GBV)
• Facilitate community engagement and SASA! activities

4.Coordination and Referrals

• Establish referral pathways with service providers
• organize with health, legal, and psychosocial actors

5.Monitoring and Reporting

• Track protection trends and risks
• produce reports and keep case documentation

6.Accountability to Affected Populations

• assist feedback and complaint mechanisms
• Promote community participation

7.Safeguarding and PSEA

• Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies
• Report any concerns immediately

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field
• 4–6 years’ experience in CP/GBV programming
• Experience in urban or transit settings preferred

CORE COMPETENCIES

• Strong case management skills
• Ability to work independently
• Strong communication and coordination skills

 LANGUAGES

• English required
• Kinyarwanda and refugee languages an asset

 WORKING CONDITIONS

• Field-based role with high workload
• Travel between sites may be required
